The Restoration
This significant historic Meetinghouse, purchased by the Town of Harwich nearly a decade ago had fallen into great disrepair. Our members have worked tirelessly in their effort to return the Meetinghouse to its original condition, worthy of its recognition in the National Register of Historic Places.
Lars Michelsen carefully working his way around the hall, hand stenciling a replica of the original border design. Lars is artistically talented and adept at the Danish decorative arts which he learned form his mother, passed on to her from his grandfather. Lars skill and patient commitment to his craft is evident is the quality of the work you see in the Meetinghouse today.
Dick Gomes of Harwich labored over repairing and reupholstering our historic pew cushions for many weeks. Using an antique manual button machine, he worked tirelessly to recreate over 1800 buttons then hand sewed them to the original cushions.
Masterfully designed and built by Rob Plaice our grand stairway is a focal point in the Meetinghouse. Constructed using southern pine and historacally appropriate hand turned mahogany newel posts, this stairway beautifully joins our Main Performance Hall to our lower level Reception.
